The 2013 Cheltenham Festival will kick off on Tuesday, March 12, at Cheltenham Racecourse in Gloucestershire. The four-day happening – one of the UK’s premier sports event – draws thousands of enthusiastic horseracing fans; meanwhile, around the world, many thousands more are choosing to make a William Hill Cheltenham bet. Every year, record-breaking amounts of money are wagered on this major event, making it one of the top moneymaking sports events of the year.
The first day of the festival (considered by many to be the most electric) is called Champion Day, and the highlight of this day is the Cheltenham Roar – that unique cry of excitement that the crowd makes as the horses first leave the gate. So famous is the Cheltenham Roar that chances are that the many at-home punters will be roaring at the same time. Besides the races on the first day, there will be a parade of famous horses and their jockeys, and lots of live music and entertainment.
But besides being the place to see and be seen, the 2013 Cheltenham Festival is all about the races, and Champion Day has a superb schedule of seven races, including the Stan James Champion Hurdle. The complete schedule is as follows:
• 1:30 pm: The William Hill Supreme Novices’ Hurdle
• 2:05 pm: Racing Post Arkle Challenge Trophy Steeplechase
• 2:40 pm: The JLT Specialty Steeplechase
• 3:20 pm: Stan James Champion Hurdle Challenge Trophy
• 4 pm: Glenfarclas Cross-Country Handicap Steeplechase
• 4:40 pm: OLBG Mares’ Hurdle (for the David Nicholson Trophy)
• 5:15 pm: Pulteney Land Investments Novices’ Handicap Chase
These seven exciting races open the Cheltenham Festival 2013 with a jolt of exhilaration, making way for the remaining three days of racing thrills. The festival is indeed reason to Roar and a great time to have a bet on Cheltenham with William Hill.
